Accreditation of arbitrators is one of the essential services provided by the International Arbitration Federation. As a supervisory body for arbitration centers and institutions, the Federation seeks to ensure the provision of efficient and impartial arbitration services through the accreditation of qualified and distinguished arbitrators. This accreditation reflects the Federation’s commitment to the highest standards of quality and professionalism in the field of arbitration.

Categories of arbitrators

The arbitrators are divided into three categories according to the table below:

Objectives of accrediting arbitrators

The accreditation of arbitrators is a vital step in enhancing the confidence of disputing parties in the integrity and objectivity of the arbitration process, as it ensures that accredited arbitrators have the highest levels of professionalism and standards. Accreditation also opens new doors for arbitrators to participate in international and local arbitration cases, which enhances their opportunities and proves their commitment to the highest levels of quality in this field.

Criteria for accreditation of arbitrators

Deep professional experience: the arbitrator is required to have a proven professional track record of years of practical experience in the field of arbitration, including managing and arbitrating a specific number of complex cases that demonstrate his ability to handle disputes efficiently and effectively.

Academic qualification and specialized training: the arbitrator must have obtained advanced academic qualifications in law or related fields, in addition to passing specialized and internationally recognized training programs in arbitration, which enhances his theoretical and applied abilities in this field.

Compliance with professional ethics: the arbitrator is required to demonstrate strict adherence to professional ethics, including impartiality and integrity at all stages of the arbitration process, while maintaining the confidentiality of information and protecting the interests of the disputing parties.

Ability to manage conflicts: the arbitrator must have advanced skills in managing conflicts, including the ability to calm tensions between disputing parties and direct the arbitration process towards constructive solutions.

Obtaining a certificate of membership in the Union for the competent authorities.
Appointment as an arbitrator in disputes before the federation if required.
Publishing arbitration and legal research and articles in the arbitration and Law Journal of the Federation.

Conditions

  • He must have an accredited university degree (Bachelor) in his field of specialization.
  • His scientific experience in his field of specialization should not be less than 10 years.
  • To pass the certification program for judges in international arbitration.
  • Those who have issued 5 institutional arbitration judgments are exempted from the previous program and are accredited and registered as an arbitrator in the list of arbitrators in the Federation directly.
Restriction of the unrestricted arbitrator to the center
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • The number of years of experience in the field of specialization is not less than 10 years.
  • Passing the Fellowship Program at the center, and those who have issued (5) institutional arbitration rulings are excluded from this program.
  • Passing the accreditation program (Sessions management), and those who have issued (5) institutional arbitration rulings are excluded from this program.
  • No court decision has been issued against him in a case that violates honor and honesty.
Renewal of the membership of the practicing/ accredited arbitrator of the Federation
  1. A practicing/accredited arbitrator who is registered with the IFA's list and his membership is valid, he is registered directly without participating in the international arbitration fellowship program and the accreditation program (management of arbitration sessions).
  2. The arbitrator who is registered with the IFA's list as an arbitrator (practitioner/ certified) and his membership has expired and an application for renewal has been submitted within one year from the date of its expiration, the procedure is carried out according to the following cases:
    • He is exempted from participating in the International Fellowship in arbitration and the accreditation program (management of arbitration sessions) if he issues (3) institutional arbitration rulings.
    • It is exempted from participation in the International Fellowship Program in arbitration and it is required to participate in the accreditation program (management of arbitration sessions) if less than (3) institutional arbitral awards are issued.
  3. An arbitrator who is registered with the IFA list as an arbitrator (practitioner/ certified) and his membership has expired and has not been renewed within one year from the date of its expiration, the terms and conditions of the new registration application apply to him.

Application process for accreditation

Submission of application: interested arbitrators must submit a formal application for accreditation that includes details of their professional and educational background.

Qualifications review: the qualifications and experience provided are reviewed by a competent committee in the Federation.

Interview procedure: applicants may be required to conduct a personal interview or provide additional evidence of their competence.

Final evaluation: applications are evaluated based on the established criteria and a decision is made on granting accreditation.
